Re-training the bladder
For children with vesicoureteral reflux (VUR) who are toilet trained, it can help the bladder work better and reduce the risk of urine flowing backward to the kidneys.
Bladder re-training means helping your child go to the toilet at set times, making sure they empty their bladder completely, drinking plenty of water, avoiding caffeine and fizzy drinks, and using rewards to encourage good habits. Over time, this can help prevent infections and protect the kidneys.
