Antibiotics for duplex kidney

This page explains when and why antibiotics may be used to treat or prevent urinary tract infections (UTIs) in children with duplex kidney, and what to expect during treatment.

If your child gets urinary tract infections (UTIs) often because of duplex kidney, the doctor may give antibiotics to get rid of the bacteria causing the infection. Treating the infection also helps your child feel better.

It is important to tell your doctor quickly if your child has symptoms of a UTI to prevent kidney damage or other related problems from occurring.

This chapter contains general information about congenital malformations of the urinary tract. If you have any specific questions you should consult your doctor or other professional healthcare provider. No website or leaflet can replace a personal conversation with your doctor.
