Steroid cream for phimosis

Steroid creams are often the first treatment option for phimosis. They can help soften and loosen the foreskin, making it easier to retract over time.

Steroid cream for phimosis without scarring

Steroid cream or ointment is usually the first treatment for symptomatic phimosis. It helps make the tight foreskin more flexible so that it can gradually be pulled back.

Your doctor may prescribe a steroid cream or ointment to use twice a day for 4-8 weeks. Your doctor will show you where and how to apply it. The treatment should be applied to the narrow ring of the foreskin while gently pulling the foreskin back, without forcing it.

After treatment, your doctor may advise you to continue gently pulling the foreskin back every day to help prevent the phimosis from coming back.

Steroid treatment is generally safe when used as directed. Using too much or using it for too long can make the skin thinner and more sensitive.

Steroid cream does not treat natural adhesions between the foreskin and the head of the penis. These usually separate naturally as the child grows.
