Paraphimosis is a medical emergency
Paraphimosis happens when the foreskin gets stuck behind the head of the penis and can't be pulled back into place. This can cause pain, swelling, and make it hard for blood to flow properly to the tip of the penis.
Paraphimosis is an emergency, so if you think that your child has paraphimosis, contact your doctor immediately. The doctor will try to gently move the foreskin back into place. If that doesn’t work, they might:
- Inject an enzyme into the foreskin to help loosen it.
- Make a small cut to help loosen the foreskin.
- Suggest removing the foreskin completely.
These treatments are done to stop the pain and prevent any harm to the penis.
